Together we can build a better Westside and a better Chicago.
Cultivating Community Care
EBV uses an asset-based organizing model to help community members rely on each other to meet needs and to thrive. Our coalition of empowered neighbors and business owners are experienced in combining resources and sharing their strengths to address gaps in service and care.
Educating for Freedom
After decades of achievement gaps, disappearing programs, and emptying schools, the future of our families and communities are on the line. EBV mobilizes community members to demand that CPS invest in Black students and in the schools where they live.
Possessing the Land
EBV works to leverage community resources to invest back into our neighborhoods. Through fundraising, EBV has purchased multiple lots across the Westside with the intent to develop low-income supportive housing and shared community spaces.
We aim to rebuild the sense of community that has been lost
Connecting networks of care
Block by block, EBV aims to inventory the resources, skills and talents of neighbors across Austin, Garfield Park and North Lawndale.
We aim to restore the legacy of these historically-Black neighborhoods as home to resourceful and resilient families who took pride in their culture and communities.
Coordinating strategic action to face challenges together
Our volunteer organizers lead initiatives around our key focus areas: Education, Housing, Extreme Weather Resilience, and Small Business Incubation
Our work is completely funded by member donations and fundraising efforts. In-kind donations help us accommodate community events and provide important services. Learn about more ways to support our efforts by visiting the How to Help page.
